You are very generous and thoughtful person, Angel. I don't have any animals and for the most part am not in the path of fire. Praying for all those that are either underwater or being burned.
*feel free to cross post this on any media of your choice.. details verfied through multiple sources*

LouC - if they say "go".. Get the H out, and Go!
praying for the winds to subside, and the tropical "wet" looming in the Gulf to burst it's way up here...
Habitat for Horses
URGENT! We have the money to make small grants for those horse owners who have had to relocate their equine due to the TX Wildfires. The money must be paid directly to a hay/feed dealer,NOT THE HORSE OWNER. We must be able to verify ownership through law enf.,an ACO,or vet and will need access to the equine to check on them in a few months. THIS IS NOT FOR THOSE THAT ARE SELLING HORSES. For more info, please call us at 409.935.0277 or send an email to office@habitatforhorses.org
Prayers and best wishes to you guys in Texas. Stay Safe.
Vickie
I hope you don't mind me posting this here, horse people friends of mine are cross posting this on facebook as well.......... http://s1096.photobucket.com/albums/g328/JWBitler/?action=view¤t=BurnedMule1.jpg
Oooh... that's awful. I don't like seeing it, but I understand how it could happen. Folks don't have trailers, can't get help, and have to evac fast. They end up turning critters loose to run away from the fire, some get cornered..
Some friends have put ID on the halters (dog tags or clear taped labels), and turned them loose...
That's a really good idea. They could always microchip them as well.
That's a really good idea. They could always microchip them as well. I know that's not a quick, right now in the moment solution though.
Not everywhere has a chip reader for horses. =(
Much faster is to go to a pet store, engrave a dog tag with horse's name, your name, phone #.. Attach it to a breakaway halter..
*hmm.. note to self... that's something I probably should oughta do here, just in case*
i'll pass this on if i hear of a need. thanks for the great offer.
You are right about that Angel. That was my veterinary side coming out ;)
catz..........you are a vet? i ought to talk to you about my daughter. she is considering something in the animal field. but doesn't want to deal with blood. she is such a natural with them. and they seem to always respond to her. dmail me if you have suggestions. otherwise let's let this thread go back to it's original intent.
