Cole Crops, Fall gardening, and Winter sowing

Caddo Mills, TX(Zone 8a)

Now that the weather is cooling off, hopefully, what is everyone planning on growing now?

I want to do some lettuce, greens, and maybe radishes.

What about winter sowing?

Talihina, OK

I have already sowed mustard and turnips but I fear it is a hopeless cause ,will now get some plants from the nursery for some chinese cabbage and maybe some brossel sprouts hmmm maybe some black-eyed peas even if they don't make will help the soil

I'm not doin' any vegies for fall. I do plan on WS some perennials though.I'm also goin' to try my luck at direct sowing this year. I put out some seeds this past week. I have heard several people say they will grow strong next year if they overwinter as seedings this year. We'll see if any take or not.

I'll do wintersowing but won't start those containers till the end of December at the earliest.

For fall vegies, I have new crops of cucumbers, bush green beans & tomatoes (one has its' first tomato).

Today I planted a perennial bed of multiplier onions, sowed radishes, lettuce, chard and arugula. Started another pot of cucumbers that will spend the winter in the GH and hopefully deliver.

Waiting on the best smelling Charentais melon to be ready to harvest. If I never taste it, it won't matter. It is like smelling a delicious bloom every time I walk by! Kristi

I'm going to see if I can get a fall crop of butter beans and black eyed peas, since we'll supposedly have a warm fall. But not planting nothing until there's a sign of rain. Also the neighbor's bunny and her baby apparently live here now, so will need to either be some trapping or some fencing before there's any point to plant. But the usual spinach, carrots, radish over the winter. The other half of my household is enamored of beets, chard and brocoli as ornamentals, so probably lots of those. A few tomatoes, peppers and eggplant made it through the summer, so should start bearing again. Giving up on leeks.

At this point not planning on any winter sowing. The big project is to direct sow the rest of the lawn and the wildflowers for the rain gardens, so not so much on the veggies.
