When I got home Friday I checked the sisters, Sweet Tater and Brullee, to see if there were any babies in the shared nest and sure enough I could hear Peeping and saw two little pipped eggers. These babies werent supposed to hatch until Monday. So not knowing if these two Mamas would stay on the nest and wait for the others to hatch on time I removed the two eggs that were in progress. I figured once they hatched inside the incu they could just stay there safe and sound until the others hatched and I could sneak them back under their Mamas.
Storm Watch Babies
Awwww!
Oh they are so cute.. I sure have missed babies this year.. My large chicken pen is not baby proofed.. Got a new in the making.. It will be suitable for babies next spring.. Sure have missed babies..
Larkie
that pic of the wabbly chick going over to the one still in the shell is the cutest thing
Happy to hear they are all doing well
All Babies are still doing well! Still waiting for last eggers to hatch. Mamas have already begun taking the first ones out to eat and drink.
Adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a hen that hatched 20 the day before the storm hit. I knew she had 3 so I had a cage on standby and was going to move her last minute because I knew the pastures and coops were going to flood. I got home from work and there were 8. Went inside to watch the radar and the police came banging on my door to tell me the river had jumped the road. A hen with 20 new fluff balls were stuffed into an empty parrot cage and spent the night in the house. Hen was madder than all get out all night and halfway through the next day until the water went out. Only 2 eggs hadn't hatched and I saw and heard no signs of life so she did well.
House sits on a small hill so I was high and dry. Goats got moved into the shed with the lawnmowers next to the house. Horses found their own high ground though I told the cop that if the water goes to a certain level I was opening the gates and calling them out. Had my own private island out here for a day.
You were certainly one of the lucky ones Sue! The Storms passed just north of us by about 20 miles, that was close enough!
Only one Serama baby hatched. 4 silkie babies and I lost one just this past week. So now each Mama has two babies and they are growing . Too cute for words.
Awesome posts Eufaula, as usual.
