Brug/Datura Contest - let's rock!

We're ready with the contest, so let's do it! I have written up the entire contest pages, so go here:

http://davesgarden.com/brugcontest/
and start adding your pictures! On November 17th, one month from today, the judges will select a winner.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Dave, any rules? categories?

tiG: No rules. No limit on the number of entries you can make.

There are only two categories: Brugmansia and Datura.

We will be announcing several winners for different categories of entries (most clever, most interesting, most unusual, most mutated, most unique, whatever) but we (the judges) will decide which categories are most appropriate.

For now, just add as many good entries as you like! Have fun, and let's get over a hundred entries in there. In th end, we'll all win by having an impressive collection of Brug/Dat photos.

Snowhermit, I like that pinwheel datura of yours. Great picture. Glory of course, you know I adore your pictures simply amazing. So glad to see these wonderful pictures.

Thanks Brugmansia :)

Just one question Snowhermit...Do you hybridize your Datura to each other? I know they self seed, but crossing them to other species is so much more interesting. Of course, there are a few Brugmansia growers that would still try to use Datura pollen on Brugmansia and vice versa. I think Rich Sanders has some information on a cross that was successful between the two. Perhaps you could pick his brain and find something interesting out in that regard...Course I think I ramble too much as not everyone likes to hybridize everything under the sun.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

well, brugman, I think you and Gloria have given the rest of us that bug!!!

Tig,
I look at it like this...I love Brugmansia flowers....If someone else creates something beautiful he or she has already set seed to it and is creating something even more spectacular by the time they release the first hybrid if the indeed do release that hybrid....To make a short story long or perhaps the other way around, the hybridizers often have the best hybrids as they are creating them. The sheer pleasure of seeing a bloom and knowing that you helped create it is a unique feeling indeed....

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I vote for the pinwheel datura !!!!And tigs flash shot and......all of them!!!!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Brugmansia, No I've never hybridized the Datura but you've given me an idea for an experiment for next year. Would'nt it be great to have a lavender or purple Brug? :)

Mine aren't big enough yet :( ----- but hopefully next contest i to can enter1 :)

Just wanted to bring this back up

Snowhermit,
I do believe people are working on it as we speak and others are dreaming of it.
