Sweet taters

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Something is biting entire leaves , at the stem, off my Beauregard sweet tater vines.

Looked for tracks , suspecting deer but I found no clues (','?)

Hmmmmm , have not seen any of them lil critters around this place but what does that mean .....lol ?
We are just at the edge of the Cherokee National Forest. So glad we finally made it down here.

*interesting*
Neighbor was telling us about the wild boar that come down out of the forest at night and DH said " I never saw any" Neighbor said that is why they are a dangerous nuisance and there is OPEN season all year round except for 2 weeks being the only time ya can hunt them with dogs.

See how i can hijack my own thread? bwahahahahaah

Nice seein ya shoe ((())))

shoe, while I got ya by the ears I need to ask if it is normal for some of the sweet taters to be pushing up above the soil under the vines?

My first sweet tater attempt.
I had 2 empty 40 ft rows that needed planting so the neighbor inspired me to try them.

"shoe, while I got ya by the ears I need to ask if it is normal for some of the sweet taters to be pushing up above the soil under the vines?"

Did you plant them in a list? If not that may be why. They need to be planted in hilled soil unless you soil is deep.

As for whistlepigs, "ground hogs", and they can eat nearly everything in your garden. Sneaky cheeky little bas....fellas...

Glad you made it to Tenn.

Soil is deep. I use raised soil beds for planting. Rows are 18 in wide and however high I decide to rake them up.

Thanks shoe.

I took my boy dogs for a walk around the garden perimeter
and let them have a go (pun intended) to hopefully discourage critters from entering.

"Going" in the garden has many benefits! Keep them dawgs working. :>)

I need to go do that around my okra; deer are eating all the leaves off. Good thing I have dead eye aim.

Baby cottontails that squeezed through my 4x4 wire fence chomped down all the leaves from the sweet potatoes and the morning glories this year (at least they left bunny presents to enrich the sand). Once they were too big to squeeze in, they stopped being chewed up and are now leafing out again.

Thanks kmom,
Yup, we have a large size rabbit HERD here and abouts.

Our one area ,just in sight of where we keep the dogs during the day ,
is what I lovingly refer to as the Hassenpfeffer Kindergarten.
If I keep it mowed they stay out of there.

You should hear 6 GSDs send up the alarm " Mom Mom Mom the fuzzy ones are back ! Woofwoofwoofffffffffffffie woof woof "

tnxbai,
