I've had great luck with Acidanthera in containers over the past several years, but this year, not one plant bloomed. I have 3 containers of them and have tried moving one to different locations, feeding and watering it differently from the other two, and giving all of them lectures about scheduled bloom times. Nothing has worked. The leaves are very green and healthy on all 3, and the other two containers are where their predecessors thrived in years past. What went wrong?
Acidanthera (Peacock Orchid)
They need a LOT of sun
One of the pots finally bloomed...rather sparsely, though, and the fragrance isn't what is has been in years past. The other 2 never bloomed at all. They all received 9+ hours of sun this summer from the southwest side of the patio. The leaves are standing tall (3.5 feet) and strong. I plan to cut them back by half, let the green leaves turn brown, and bring them in for the winter. I'll try again next year.
