Daylily 'Black Prince'
Hi there,
The images you submitted for this PlantFile do not seem to be the correct cultivar, if you check, the first image is correct. It's a dark warm deep red with plum overtones, no midribs on the petals as your images show. There are a few mislabled ones out there unfortunately. Here are a few more online samples.

this one you can click on the thumbnail to bring it up larger:

and just over halfway down this page is a beautiful image of one:

This Lily was Purchased from a friend Shiela in Washburn Illinois who has been growing Black Prince since the 1970's . I will be contacting here, and telling her, that Calif_Sue member of Dave's Garden, does not agree that her Black Prince fans are genuine Black Prince fans. As for the second link you have provided which happens to be a gardenweb link which is quite curious to see a DG user referencing, this gardenweb link you provided looks identical in color and yellow throat to the images I provided and guess what else it appears to have slight midribs on two of the four petals just not as prominant of mid ribs as mine. So therefore I Respectfully disagree with you. Sandra

If you go http://db.tinkersgardens.com and type in Black Prince their will be two pics. The first pic looks just like the dark purple black shiny one without the midribs like yours, but the second pic on tinkers of a larger spread of Black prince growing in a field ,which looks like it was submitted by a Russel too, is almost 100% identical to mine with the dull reddish lustre and the crease on petals and faint midribs, identical yellow throat large flower bloom and tall scapes. So maybe their are two variations. Im tending to believe that the dull lustre variation is the correct one as my friend Sheila is in her late 60's is a perfectionist and only grows historics. But maybe the bright shiny darker one is also correct. keep in mind that although midribbing and creasing would and color to some degree can be genetic. the highly alkaline red cement like clay here in the SE can also play a role in color and lustre. I can see why you would think mine was incorrect if you were used to only seeing the shiny darker black prince. but check out the second pic on tinkers. Respectfully, Sandra
Thank you for your detailed clarification.
The gardenweb link is just another online plant database, nothing wrong with including it here as reference.
