Started some new seeds

Punta Gorda, FL(Zone 9b)

I just planted out 7 ambigua, 10 aurantia salmon, and 10 edulis 'pink cheeks' from georgiavines. They had been pre-soaked
too. Some had just opened, so I know I'll get some sprouts. Just making a thread of it so I can make a record of when
they were started, and post some pics when they start showing up. I planted out fresh foetida seed a week ago (8) from my
own plant, and they are peeking up this morning for the first time.
Like Roxx had mentioned on another thread about not getting fruit on one vine, this is the same thing with my foetida. But maybe Gordon's right.
(about maturity)
Last year was her first year flowering (same year born) and not one fruit. This year, she's two, still flowering, and ONE fruit. So I planted it. :)
edit:And I'm still looking for the pink foetida, I have the blue. It's lovely, but I must have the pink!!!

That's wonderful! Why not keep us posted, on this thread, how you started them, date etal, and when they actually started growing, when they bloom............show us pictures of all the steps!

This information will be precious to those of us who can't grow anything from seed. I can grow annuals but for the rest of the genre of seeds, I simply have NO luck!

Hi Kay,
That's a wonderful idea-from birth to bloom!

Hi all, How do you root passies from cuttings?

Hi all, How do you root passies from cuttings?

Fill up a small starter pot (3", 4", whatever) with some moist potting mix or sphagnum moss, using a small wooden skewer or similar object to make a hole for your cutting. Cut off a section of vine with just a few leaves on it - maybe 8" or 1'. (In your cut, avoid the growing tip or just cut it off.) Make sure that your bottom end has a few inches of space on it without leaves because that section will be underground. Dip the bottom end in rooting hormone powder. Place the bottom end in the mix in your pot, packing the mix around it.

Rooting may take 2 weeks or longer. You need to maintain light, bottom heat, and humidity during this period. For all 3, you can use something like the Leap Frog starter system (for starting seedlings) with the larger dome on it. If you have a small desk lamp, you can use the top of your refrigerator to provide the heat. To maintain humidity, depending on the height of your potted cutting, you can use a large ZipLock bag or small transparent/semi-transparent trash bag, making as tight of a seal as you can (an upended but still open ZipLock bag placed over the cutting will not work). Just make sure that it doesn't dry out and that fungus doesn't take over.

Check for roots coming out of the bottom of the pot after 2 weeks. New top growth from the leaf nodes would also be a sure sign that you've been successful.

If that process sounds too amateur, well, you can spend as much money as you want on the process and the equipment, but it's just not that hard, so making it hard is a fool's errand. I know some people have some very inventive methods, so they can detail those for you. Rooting in water has its potential failures, so I'm not sure that I would recommend this method OVER any other, no matter what success a few people have had with it.

These are two of the seedlings I started back then. They came up about 10 days after sowing. One is seemani and the other is suberosa x papua

This is foetida, back on the original day I started this thread. I'll take a pic of it in the morning to show you it's size now. This was my own seed.

Good job! how many seeds did it take to get 2 seedlings?

Punta Gorda, FL(Zone 9b)

Hi Dana,
This is some of the fresh seed ordered from Georgia vines. (Remember our thread on fresh versus not so fresh?)
They all came up except two of each, which I set aside in case they decide to show up later.
The picture is showing a couple of them after I carefully re-potted them, therefore separated. (The seemani and the cross)
