Hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone that has seen a ears flower before could let me know if I should be expecting a flower, or if its just a stock that never had a leaf, weather a bug got it or whatever.. I've never seen something like this before.. Oh its just a regular common green colocasia elephant ear..
jen
is this the start of a elephant ear flower??
Colocasia "Tea Cups" has similar flowers, just can't find photos of mine at the moment. You'll just have to wait a little longer to find out for definite about yours.
yep as i as well as you all guessed its just a stock that has no leaf, theres another leaf coming up in the center i checked it today :(... 3rd year with ears and never seen a flower, and i have 14 different kinds :(
i think they play games with us.. one of my macrorhizzas is sending up a flower spike..
never expected it ... esp this yr.. they havent had a very long growing season .. only went in
end of june..
hope u do have a flowering on some...many of your EE !!!
Well the problem i think i've had was i lived in canada and our growing season there is much shorter, so by the time they really get growing the season is over, i'd cut them all down and store the bulbs for winter.. This july my family and i moved to alabama, so yes theres a longer season here but i didn't get them started until july.. I have hopes for next year.. Weather they flower or not, i didn't get them because of the flowers..
jen
i hear ya jen..
here in utah its a game of playing with the weather..
of course opposite situation with many living in south on coast..
all the rain and hot weather..many tropicals are suffering because of to much
rain...
i grow my tropicals for the "tropical affect" too..not for the flowers..
but it is a hoot to see our plants flower.. for me..its.. wow..maybe im doing
something right...:)
Mine grow all year. The native one and "Tea Cups" flower each summer period. The "Illustris" flowered nearly straight away even as a small plant when I bought it. A purple stemmed one is taking over with hundreds of pups but hasn't flowered yet. And I recently got a small one, think it was called "Black Night", which still hasn't flowered but I think might this coming summer. I think it's a combination of long growing season, good feeding, strong sunlight, variety, and luck.
Ya its weird I've never seen a stock come up without the leaves on it, must of been a bug or something, but yep there's another leaf in the center starting to come up
