Lilies in Texas?

Lewisville, TX

Do any of yall grow asiatic or oriental lilies/lilium in Texas (DFW)?

I read an article from Texas A&M that most lilies don't like how hot it gets here suggested only growing Madonna, Tiger Lily, Formosa Lily, or Easter Lily....The problem is 3/4 of those selections are white (makes me think of funerals) and the Tiger lily supposedly caries some ancient lily virus (??) .

Any other variety suggestions? Thanks!

Vossner, also a Texan, grows beautiful Triumphator lilies and it was due to her photo that I ordered mine from Faraway Flowers (DG's own Mainiac). http://www.farawayflowers.com/pages.php/page/aboutus

I'm sure other DG people will add their own favorites.

Oh wow, a oriental and easter lily hybrid...that actually might do the trick! One of my cousin's grows easter lilies just fine in this area, thank you for the suggestion!

Hi I noticed Faraway Flowers did not have this. Did you find it elsewhere?

Write and ask Ramona. I don't know if she plans to get them again but I believe I did get mine from her.

I did! I just found it in my photo program.

Just to clarify - my order was 2 sets of three bulbs for a total of six.

I know for certain lilies can grow in this area. See this thread and the posts by drthor: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1186292/?hl=spring+blooms
I have a friend nearby that grow them too and apparently Market Street gets their supply from a local grower. I have some orientals and asiatics but they don't do too great for me..maybe b/c I am a stingy on water

The Asiatic lilies do very well here, because they will bloom before the heat struck in Dallas.

Almost all kind of thrumpet liliums do very well.
This is Regale Lilium. Stunning and very fragrant. It comes back every year.

Oriental Lilies come out too late and they will strugle during the heat. So don't waist your time on them.
A good one, after Thriumphator lily, it has been BLACK BEAUTY lilium.

Pirl who is Ramona? Thanks for the tip regarding oriental lilies I definitely need earlier bloomers because it does get so hot here .

Ramona is Faraway Flowers and here at DG her name is Mainiac (she lives in Maine).

Ramona carries so many beautiful Asiatic lilies. You won't be disappointed.

Thank you all, I won't waste my time with the orientals then, just asiatics and trumpets. And thanks again vossner for all the information. Does anyone pot their lilies?

You want to buy your bulbs from EDNIE FLOWERS BULBS:

Amazing prices and the bulbs are huge. Good luck and post pictures next year.
