Why do they put Wheat in bird food?

Wauseon, OH(Zone 5a)

Yesterday I was buying bird food and was looking to see what was in the bag and they listed wheat. What birds eat wheat?

i try to stay away from fillers.

Can you list all the fillers that you may find in bird food?

I am talking about Wild Birds.

Norman, OK

Wheat is not filler, it's a nutritious grain. It's often used in quail feeders. Cracked corn is what I stay away from. It's low in fat content and attracts unwanted birds. Feeding birds in the summer is like frosting on the cake for them, feeding them during harsh winter conditions is a matter of survival. In this case you want the highest fat content in a food and you can't beat black sunflower- 43% fat compared to 8% for corn.

great link! it confirmed my suspicions that milo is indeed just a filler as it is always left behind......

it should have added bears, raccoons, etc. under "what corn attracts"!
