I thought this was a cooper's b/c of the long tail, but when I saw it through the binocs, it had lots of horizontal, cinnamon lines across the entire breast and belly and down on the feathers on its legs too. This is the only pic that I got unfortunately and it appears to be headless. We've had red-shouldered in this neighborhood, so I wondered if that might be it?
CLOSED: what hawk
Could be a Sharp-shinned but really hard to tell.
Sharp-shinned or Cooper's, can't tell which!

I'm pretty sure it's a Cooper's. It was pretty big. I forgot that they can have that horizontal coloring. For the last year or so, I've only seen ones with the teardrop markings on their breast.
Thanks for your help!
Yep; horizontal barring is adult, teardrop is immatures.
