I just rescued this beautiful bromeliad from Wal-mart! It was the only one they had like it. The cretins had it planted in sopping wet very heavy soil, but it seemed to be doing very well none the less. Immediately repotted it in the orchid bark my other neos love. I saw the painted fingernail bromeliad for the first time at Kanapaha Gardens and have wanted one ever since.
Neoregelia spectabilis-Painted Fingernail Bromeliad
I have Neo. Spectabilis Painted Fingernail, but it looks a little different.
Are the undersides of the leaf a tiger pattern?
no tiger pattern. Do you think it's something else - it certainly does have "painted nails" :)
There are so many neo's out there. It would be too hard for me to even guess what it is. I think it is NOT painted fingernails.
Maybe try a forum for identification if you don't get any leads here.
digital_dave please give us a suggestion.
OK - well I don't think it's Neo spectabilis.
Although it does have the pink ends, spectabilis has very rigid leaves. This one doesn't seem to.
I have and old hybrid of princeps and carolinae that looked similar but like many of these, it's not even a good guess. And the coloring (at least the potential) on this plant is better.
A little more sun might really color up this plant!
As always with Neo hybrids, it's only a wild guess.
Dave
