Alpine Strawberry-Ruegen: in 8a Texas

Austin, TX

I was interested in this strawberry for next Spring because it is runnerless, with a claim of intense strawberry flavor. Has anyone grown these in Texas? What was your experience? I have a raised bed garden with Mel's Mix by the book and was planning on 8 squares dedicated to strawberries.

I have them growing in deep shade in Texas 8b and they runner like crazy even thought they should not. I bet I have a homegrown version since I bought it off of EBAY.

Do you think that they need to be in the shade? My garden is in direct sunlight all day.

I bought mine specifically because they would fruit well in the shade unlike traditional Strawberries. I bet they would do fine in sun but not the sun we are having now. Austin says 108 tomorrow. You would be lucky if they didnt catch fire.
