Hi katie, From this angle it looks like an immature Blue Jay.

Hi there - I knew I could count on you. The gal who posted it (a 'friend' on Facebook) said it looked like a Blue Jay on steroids, so I guess that's it. Just looks different to me than the jays on the West Coast that I've seen.

Thank you. Hope all is well with you!

It is different to the West Coast jays ;-)

Thanks, resin. ;-)

But the mature birds are still generally identifiable as jays, though, right? Or is there enough of a difference that I wouldn't recognize the similarity?

So would this be Cyanocitta cristata? Supposedly we do have some sightings here, though I'm generally more familiar with Cyanocitta stelleri or Aphelocoma californica.

It would be Cyanocitta cristata .

OK. Thanks!
