This is the second year our bell peppers are not doing good, they are huge plants with no peppers. There are several people in our area that are experiencing the same thing. We did fertilize with bloom builder for veggies my husband got from a farmer friend in hopes they will start getting blossoms, anyone have any ideas on how to get these plants to produce. We use chicken poo in our gardens in the spring do you think that might be a problem? Our hot peppers are producing but there not hot, hungarian hot wax, not heat at all.
Bell peppers not producing
Two possibilities come to mind regarding the sweet peppers:
1) Too much shade
2) Too much nitrogen - chicken poo is high in nitrogen
Can't help with the hot peppers, sorry.
Concur, Chicken manure is high in nitrogen which gives you lush plants. The bloom builder (high phosphate should help). When the plant gets tired of growing they will set peppers, just might take a little longer than you expect.
As for the the hot peppers, fast growth with lots of water will make them more mild, but not heatless. Any chance you have Sweet Banana instead of Hungarian Wax. They can be confused.
Thanks we are going to test the soil, maybe to much nitrogen, no shade it a full sun garden. As for the hot peppers the seeds have a little heat but not the pepper, the packet of seeds said hungarian hot wax so I do believe thats what we have, we have had a terribly hot dry summer, it just started to rain this past week again but the temps are in the high 80's - low 90's. We were thinking the high temps might be part of the problem. It's not just our peppers doing this, all our friends are saying the same thing about there sweet pepper plants. Thanks for all your help!
