Hurricane is coming to Texas. My tomatoes will welcome the winds and lower temps in Austin. Sorry about ya'll in Houston.
Hurricane Don? Come at me bro!
I am so not ready for this. Can definitely use the rain :)
Houston's not even CLOSE to the predicted path, so I'd say the big city has *nothing* to worry about ..
Can't say the same for the rest of us, however...
Well I am not in Houston. I live in Mont Belvieu. Off I-10 east halfway between Houston and Beaumont. Took a bad hit during Rita and Ike.
Baytown address because they deliver our mail. lol
Look at the weather forum.
You're not even close, no matter how far from Houston/Galveston proper...
Unless you live near Corpus Christi, you're not near the damaging winds or TS effects, other than MAYBE some rain.
Rain would be good.
I'm happy for the folks in the Big Bend part of the state. At least someone is getting rain.
Carla
It is still way to early to tell anything for CERTAIN and Corpus Christi can have this storm. I just want some rain. I hope you are already making plans to be safe especially since you are so sure Corpus Christi is taking a direct hit.
Tropical storm right now....hopefully all you guys get wind wise, but should would be nice if it at least moved this high pressure away and brought a few thunderstorms to the areas north.
National Hurricane Ctr update 4pm,
max winds, 45mph...
aiming a bit south of CC, and landfall late Fri / early Sat.
While NHC has waffled north/south of CC, they haven't moved it much all day.
I have moved small things, will have extra water to flush and water horses tomorrow when I get home, just in case of power loss.
Looks like a drawn out Yankee summer thunderstorm to me... most wind predicted 60mph. Gone from us by Mid
Saturday...
I work for a major chemical company. Were this "bad", we'd be working on shutdown/evac plans. They didn't even board windows... Just cleaned up loose junk outside, and told us all to report in tomorrow.
Glad you are ahead of the game. Never hurts to be ready. If I lived closer I would be glad to help. Stay safe.
Yes, I'm hoping it might budge the high pressure dome that is parked over us.
Doesn't look like much will take place right now but here is a good link to watch him.

I've been watching it on NOAA.com. Doesn't look like much joy.
Looks like CC will be ok according to report this morning :)
We needed that rain ...
darnit
Don is a big tease -- only hitting the very southwestern part of the state! :-(
Carla
Looks like Don is more interested in a Mexican vacation!
lol Tammie
Looks like Don is not meant to be a hurricane. Hope at least someone can benefit from some overcast days if not rain.
Enjoying this rain here. Been raining since this morning.
Maybe Don will at least weaken this high pressure system over the state. I notice there is a lot more cloud cover over the state and I just got my first rain in 10 months a few minutes ago. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. Don't know where it came from but 2/10 inches of rain is simply AMAZING. I am sitting here soaking wet and happy as a clam. Maybe the bit of moisture Don brings will help.
We can only hope Tammie.
Poof! .... there went Don....
We got about a quarter inch here in W Houston. Now, I am NOT complaining but it happened to come when my friend and her friend visiting from New Jersey came over to swim! Figures... :) Looks like it'll be in the upper 90's to 100's the next 10 days with no rain. I dream of October...
The ground was wet this morning. Does that count? It's so bad that the deer are coming up my livestock trough to drink, and I'm finding deer poop everywhere. They haven't eaten anything besides grass but Ive lived here almost 20 yrs and never seen them this deperate.
When we pulled in last night a raccoon came out of the garage, I hate to see the wildlife so desperate. I'm not so happy either, and it's supposed to get hotter this week.
We saw a skunk in my parents front yard last night... first time in 30 years. Lots of wildlife are moving further into towns in desperation. Have you noticed there are fewer insects... I have. I read a report somewhere that is one of the effects of the drought and the trickle down effect .. less food for insect eating birds and animals and on... terrible.
OH MY GOSH poor animals. I saw a wild hog killed on the road Fri. I have never seen one in all the years I have lived in Texas. He must have come out in search of water or food. I am sure with the size of it it did alot of damage to the vehicle that hit it.
We have an armadillo that has been here a lot of years. This year it has been digging a lot deeper holes than any other years. I have almost fallen because of them several times. But would never do anything to harm it.
That armadillo is having to dig deeper than usual to find the grubs he eats. They are deeper in the ground probably because their bodies lose moisture if the ground is too dry. They go deeper the drier the ground becomes. He is probably having to work harder to dig more and finding fewer grubs for his efforts. Lots of animals starving this year. I keep reading about the deer abandoing their young because they can't feed them. Wildlife centers are taking in more and more babies. I can't imagine how many have died in the wild. The next few years hunting seasons are going to be bad since the populations are going to drop... populations of lots of animals are going to drop.
