I bought these seeds almost a year ago. I was told it was grenadilla, everyone can see that it is not.
I have searched Myle's site, as well as googled every leaf I could with no luck. The leaf is also 'sticky'
on the backside, not gooey sticky, but tiny hairy sticky. Can you please help me experts? There are no bloom sets,
and I'd love to get a grip on what I have here. TY
Can you identify this Passion?
Hmmm, possibly a hybrid. I've never seen leaves like that either.
Could be P.morifolia or a related species.
You may be right jjacques. I looked it up after you mentioned this, and there is a similarity.
I've never had morifolia. Are the leaves sticky-like they will stick to your clothes?
Perhaps, as you mentioned a hybrid of it. TY
Yes, leaves are hispids (covered with hairs) hence sticky. Now, P.morifolia is similar to other related species such as P.bryonioides, P.warmingii and P.karwinskii, not easy to differenciate.
No, I really think you've got it with the morifolia. I was able to find all but the bryonioides leaves, and it definitely looks like morifolia. TY again, the fruit of this
passion is beautiful! Is it edible? Does anyone know?
I had moriflolia a couple years ago. The fruit was small like a larger thompson grape. I thought they weren't ripe so I didn't try them. The plant died over winter but the fruit fell into the pot and in the spring they sprouted plants so they must have been ripe.
Thanks Roxy. I love that it will re-seed itself! It is lovely for sure, I have 2 more planters that have it in them, I think I'll place in ground this weekend so
they'll get even bigger. Now I still have to find ligularis, lol.
John Vanderplank writes in his book that the fruits are edible but not recommended without explaining why but the ripe fruits I handled did not give me any wish to eat them...
