Honey bees

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

For 2 years, the honey bees didn't visit my yard. I had read that the honey bee population had dwindled here due to a disease. There was fear that they all would die and citizens were asked to not disturb their hives and to not kill them. I'm so excited! The honeybees are back visiting my plants. They have never bothered me and I can mess with my plants with the honey bees scurrying around me. They are so critical for plant/crop polliination.and honey production.

I had a swarm at my hummingbird feeder yesterday and they are very visible all over my yard along with several other types of bees. I like all kinds of visitors to my yard, and they do serve a very important function for all of us.

Russell, they are having a feeding frenzy at your hummingbird feeder! Great photo! Apparently the honey bee decline is global in nature and should be a big concern to everyone. Here's a short article written in April of this year.:
