Usually the dog (Lucky) follows me around as I weed/prune in the mornings but today this guy was helping. I was cutting some spent blooms and when I looked up he was about 2 inches from my face. Guess I need to stop sitting down when I weed!

That is cool! I would be tempted to post that photo in the Bug forum to find an ID.

I try to work around spiders in the garden as they willing eat some of the "bad" bugs.

Oh, please tell me that thing is tiny! Because in that picture, it looks like a Hollywood monster!! Glad it didn't bite you...

It was a big spider..1/2 an inch or so and I was a little shocked. But I moved on to finish my chores and left his area alone. It was cool how he was right in the center of his web like a king.

Usually you see the larger ones in fall. I believe called an Argelope.
I'd be curious to know who this guy is...

The insect forum did identify it. Banded Argiope (Argiope trifasciata) I knew it was an orb weaver but didn't know what kind.

Excellent ~ thanks! I knew my spelling didn't look quite right but was too tired to check it. 8 /

The male painted bunting trying to stay cool!..A large cedar just outside the North/east bedroom window is home this summer to this colorful couple. The picture was taken through the window as the birds are extremely shy.
