Plant Mysteries/ID help!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I have several sort of nice-looking plants that I have no idea what they are because I didn't plant them (to my knowledge!). This one is in my shade garden.

This one is in full sun, has nice leaves and seems to have flower buds on top but they haven't bloomed yet and have been there a while. I can take a better picture if needed.

This guy is getting very tall in my front bed, full sun, by that crepe myrtle. No sign of budding yet. Is this a weed??

That's all the mystery plants for now. Thanks for any help you can give. I'd like to know if I should be pulling any of this up!

Linden, TX(Zone 8a)

The plant that you thought might be a hibiscus, looks similar to a turk's cap. Hard to tell when there is no bloom.

I'll take a shot in the dark... the first photo resembles the leaves on an Angels Trumpet or Brugmansia perhaps.
The third one favors dog fennel... a weed but a pretty one with fragrant insignificant blooms.
The Hibiscus is related... Turks Turban which should have small red blooms that the hummers like.

Ok, the hibiscus looking one could be turk's cap because I have lots of pink t.c. on the other side of the front bed. I'll watch it and see how it flowers.
I also have a Brug in the back but it was a little baby and has never flowered. I'll keep them growing and see what happens!

Anyone else game for guessing?!

My nephew and I eat Turk's Cap berries all the time.
Nice Watermelon flavor.

Too bad they dont have improved eating varieties.

Grapevine, TX(Zone 8a)

Could that last one be crepe myrtle?

Jujube, how do you know when turk's cap berries are ripe? I've tried eating them several times but they were always fairly tasteless.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I have a couple of that last one and they are growing under a crepe myrtle. So, if you leave the part after the flower falls off, is that a seed? Maybe that fell off and sprouted? If those are crepe myrtles, I will pot them up and have them to swap! Gotta start my "have" list... Thanks! Janet

My crepe myrtle suckers like crazy, so you might find that your volunteers are still connected to the parent tree. Even so, you could just cut the connection and pot them up. I have potted up and given away tons of sweetspire suckers. :)

Turks Cap will be red and plump.

I think I figured out my first picture. Could it be a 4 o'clock?

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/85182/

I know I planted some seeds a year or 2 ago. But as I look at other pics of 4 o'clocks, their leaves don't have wavy edges and mine does. So, maybe the mystery continues...I'll post on the plant ID forum.

It doesn't favor the 4 o'clock foliage I've seen in the past.

Are those flower buds just below the top set of leaves?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

It looks like it's making little flower buds on the stem? I'll let a few days pass and take another picture. Thanks for your interest.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

That one sure looks like Angel Trumpet leaves.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Here's the Angel Trumpet I have growing. Not sure what kind because it was leftover from my church's plant booth. I'll have to look again through my tags and see if I got one for it.

There are two cultivars that are called Angels Trumpet. Datura and Brugmansia so the leaves may not be the same.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

The one with buds looks like Datura, who's flowers open upward. Brug flowers hang down.

New Braunfels, TX(Zone 8b)

The last one might be blue plumbago

The mystery continues...
That first plant, growing in my shade garden, has tiny white flower clusters coming from the stem. The bugs seem to be leaving it alone, although they are munching on my brug and other things.
Hmmmm....

It's growing nicely!

Definitely not Brug or Datura but I'm going to say it is in the nightshade family.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I agree it's nightshade don't know which one.

Here's a guess from the Plant ID forum:

I might just need to wait to see what berries it makes.
