That's a lovely pink. I don't know what's the criteria to find a fitting name for each cultivar.

Lovely Pink will work for me. I just found the tag and it say's Red M.. Not sure if that is correct.. :)

Exactly what I thought?? Does Alabama have a lot of plumeria's ?

Yuma, AZ(Zone 10a)

just a guess it could be red moragne

No. I personally have a few specimens in my collection. They're treated as a tender perennial here. I was just admiring the beauty on the one you posted.

That is a beauty. I just started on Plumeria. Derick in Tucson has been trying to educate me. I purchased mine from Home Depot two years ago and he told me to never do that again. They are the only plant in my extensive landscape that makes me nervous because I am just starting with Plumeria.

I have been in Las Vegas since 1960 and it took me 20 years to master growing anything in the desert. My sister is coming from Santa Barbara Labor Day. I think I will have her bring me a few. They have a better selection there.

Pam, where do you purchase your Plumeria?

I appreciate all your knowledge and assistance.

LOL i hope i did not scare you sharon. i guess my thing about the big box plumeria is the soil in which they are planted. it looks like straight peat. i guess that would work for you average susie. no offense to the susie's out there. =) but you are a member of a large garden community and can find plumeria from far better stock that have been cared for by ppl who really enjoy plants and are not just trying to make a buck.

Derick, you did not scare me. But trying to grow the Plumeria do because I spend so much money on them and really do not know what I am doing. But I can always contact you.

BTW, how are your "Boxes" doing? Mother Winter

I don't think it's a Morange red, it has some yellow in it. It sort of looks like Hurricane, possibly a seedling of Hurricane or maybe an unnamed cultivar. It's very pretty whatever it is.

I just planted 2 order totaling 21 yesterday. They must have had some of them under shade cloth or in part shade because today many of them got sunburned leaves. I wish they would state the fact that some were not hardened to full sun yet. Oh well, less leaves, more energy into the roots. I'm going to give them all Dyn-Gro Pro Tek tonight. That will help with the heat and sun stress. Our sun down here in July is intense and so is the heat. August is even worse, September is often the hottest month so they have a while to go before they get any balmier conditions.

I found this tree here in town. It's an old tree, probably not even named but it has the most intense gardenia fragrance, really intense. I got a 3 tip cutting, really hope it roots for me because I love this one. It's a compact tree, so will be good for a pot on the veranda where the SE breezes can carry the incredible fragrance of this one.

Wow, that's such a pretty shade of pink there IG. Only thing is what's all those streaking leaves? Heat stress?

Hi Sharon,
I get most of my plumeria's from Kauai. I have a friend who has Huge beautiful trees, I go over a couple times a year and help her "Trim" them. It can be a chore when they get so big.. haha
I too have bought some from Home Depot, I figure every tree has the right to a great life, so thats where I come in.We also have a great grower here in California called Jungle Jacks, so I get them from him also. Bottom line I will get them wherever I can. I am not positive, but you should be alright in Las Vegas, you would have to bring them in over the winter, and maybe keep them in a little shadier spot, in the summer. You do get the high temperatures in summer.
I plant all mine in a sandy cactus mix, so you would be great with that soil condition.
I will be coming to Vegas in the next month or so, I can bring you one, if you would like. Just e mail me at Palmtreepam@cox.net. I will keep in touch...
Pam

Major stress!!! These trees are growing on a 5-6' wide x 40-50' long strip of sandy soil and surrounded on both sides by huge concrete parking lots. The get no food or water unless it rains. I fed them but had no way to water them. Now to wait for rain to wash the food in. Some of the little ones were planted by a well know Plumeria lover in Houston and they look pretty good. I know he feeds them when he comes down in the winter but they are dormant then. I'm going to begin to feed them in the spring and summer and see if I can get green leaves and more blooms.

Awww, sounds like you and I need to join force to keep those trees healthy. I was wondering if there were rain barrels that we can set up near by the area. And put up sign for people to volunteer to water those beautiful trees when needed.

One thing concern me too on the fertilizing of dried, stress plants in the midst of drought. They could burn the roots. For the same reason. I took precaution, watered my container plants the day before I give them liquid fertilizer the following day. Now with slow released fertilizer is a different story. Thanks Islandgirl for sharing the info.

I fed them with Osmocote time release. Down here it is so hot, we get about 1-2 months with time release, more in winter. Our growing season doesn't end until around November, then Plumerias drop their leaves after the first good cold front with wind. We never freeze here and our growing season begins again around mid February.

Thanks you from all the gardeners for taking care of these Plumerias trying to survive. Your mother raised a nice person.

Marathon, FL(Zone 11)

Thank you Sharon. That one pink is such a beautiful color and the fragrance so outstanding I really want to make sure it survives. I think it is the most fragrant Plumeria I have ever smelled and I have smelled a lot of them. It puts Vera Cruz Rose to shame, seriously! Pure Gardenia and as fragrant as a Gardenia.
