Strange behaivor

I have 3 birds in one of my gardens and near to them> 60 feet < there is a large Wild Black Cherry tree, which at this time is full of ripe fruit..This fruit is very small 1/4" or slightly more and contains a small stone (seed)..The birds get one fruit and fly to the birdbath to eat it ..Each day every bath will contain about 20 seeds..At first I thought the seeds were from the droppings of the birds untill I sat for a good long time and watched and they are bringing the cherries to the BB to eat ..Now I am not clear as to what happens next as I can't see right into the BBs without exposing myself at which time they fly away ..Now the Robins are the main players but almost all of the birds are using the fruit tree as well as the baths..Anyone have a clue as to this strange happening?

Someone stuck a supermarket label on the tree saying "Wash before eating"?? ;-)

Sorry, no idea! Around here, birds just scoff cherries straight down.

Now these are very bitter fruits so I was thinking that maybe they need the water to swallow it each spring the are thousands of the seedlings from this tree all over our neighborhood some of these seedlings are now large enough to bloom ..Makes the hood look nice every spring

This may be the kind of thing I've seen grackles do with seeds & nuts: they drop them in the water, I'm told to soften them up.

Hah, birds maybe more inventive than we give them credit for? lol
