is this a hib baby?

Raleigh, NC(Zone 8a)

Last fall I scattered some hardy hib seeds randomly in a bed. Is this possibly the product of those, or a weed of some sort?

No that is mulberry weed (Fatoua villosa) which will seed everywhere if you let it.

Aww bummer! They kinda looked like my hardy hib leaves, so I was hopeful the seeds might've sprouted in a natural manner. Guess I better get to pulling them up. Thanks much!

Yep, I think they might be a weed,... they already look like they are sprouting tiny weed flowers (even at their small size).
Sorry, hope you get to have more Hibiscus soon :]

I have the hardy hibs and the local bird population just loves to "plant" mulberries in my flower beds. The eaisest way to tell if the plant is the hib or the mulberry is that the mulberry leaves are shiny, and the hib are not. Hope this helps. If you need more hib seed let me know I have plenty.

This is not actually mulberry - just mulberry weed (Fatoua villosa). I guess the leaves have the same shape as mulberry, hence the name.
