Guinea Hen ?

Presque Isle, MI(Zone 5a)

How old should my guinea hens be before I let them out of the house.

Thanks

Hi Garyt. Guess it depends on what kind of predators you have around. If you have cats, they should be fairly well grown is my guess.

The main culprits in the day seem to be dogs, cats and hawks.

Definitely when they are fully feathered so they can fly! and fly they will! I lost half of mine to cats , and wound up finally with a pair who made it to adulthood. They are very aware of predators and take pretty good care of themselves and their 9 out of fourteen babies! Two of those babies drowned, trying to drink water from a pan of rainwater in the garden.( So be sure to not leave anything deeper than an inch with standing water), the other 3 were taken by Hawks.
Now that they are almost grown, they fear nothing but let you know if anything "Different" is going on. They know how to hide really well from "air attacks", so provide plenty of cover, like shrubbery!
