CHRISTMAS PICKLES

Harford County, MD(Zone 6b)

Like sweet pickles? Then you'll love these...
I Gal.Kosher Dill Pickles (2.99 at Walmart)
5 cups sugar
3/4 cup cider vinegar
4 tsp. celery seed

Pour juice off pickles and throw away. Slice the pickles anyway you like,(I do mine on the diagonal). Put pickles back in the jar. Add the sugar, vinegar and celery seed. Put the lid on tight and let set 24 hours at room temp. Turn the jar frequently so sugar dissolves. I set my jar on a plate and after about an hour I turn the jar upside down for the next hour or so, then just keep turning when I think of it. If you do these in the morning, the sugar should be dissolved by eve. I guarantee these will be the sweetest, crispiest pickles you've had.Keep in fridge after 24 hrs are up.The longer they are in the fridge the crispier they get.I usually store mine in smaller containers as a gal. jar won't fit too well in my fridge.
