Still getting soft shelled eggs

Bridgewater, ME

First it was one every now and then now its two or three a day sometimes.I have been reading that infectious bronchitis will cause this,I have had a couple of chickens that are coughing sometimes but no runny eyes or nose. They get free choice oyster shell and good feed.I have been putting DE in their feed for the last couple months could that have anything to do with the soft shells? If it is IB what do I give them?

I'd be giving them crushed up eggshells.. They might not be eating the oyster shell. I've seen that before. If they are deficient, they will really go after the eggshells.

I'd also just put DE in their feed every once in a while to treat for worms, not a constant feed.

Just my 2 cents! :)

I have to agree completely with ZZ's, To much DE is not a good thing. Egg shells are actually a better source of calcium than oyster shells, plus free range along with egg shells should be sufficient...Hay
