New Cochin bantam babies

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

Here are my 6 new cochins. A fellow member of my Atlanta Poultry group was very dissapointed in the coloration of 14 new babies he had ordered. He offered them for free to anyone so he could get the color strain he wants. Of course I was the first to jump in and a close friend was second in line. She actually made a trip to North Georgia and picked them all up for us. We divided the 14 and I wound up with my 6.....sooooooo happy!
they are supposed to be Partridge coloration , but not having any experience with this color, I am not sure . Some are much darker than the others and some have a lot of white splashes! Look and see what you think. The man also said that they are supposed to be all Hens.... but I see some really big combs already.

They are really cute and I cant wait until I can let them out of the brooder to watch them waddle around the yard with the older baby cochins!

They are darling!! They do get big combs... the wattles are the big deciding factor.. if they start hangin down, then.. well.. you know. LOL

I'm happy for you!

Hi ZZ, and thanks! I found with this pair of blacks that Im starting to see a slight difference in wattles and stance. I do believe that I have a pair here!!

I see the combs on the youngsters above.. and agree you have a couple roos...

The darker ones is so hard to tell from the pic, but it sounds like you know what I'm talkin about.. If you look at pics of the hens, they don't have much in the wattles dept. :)

Partridge is a beautiful color. I think you will be pleased if they are all hens

Pelzer, SC(Zone 7b)

They do have the Partridge "look" to them. I found mine went thru lighter and darker stages before settling on final coloration. What ever the final color decision, they'll be beautiful, and fun!!

I really like the partridge colored silkies.

Wonder what's up with the white spots? Maybe we should google them.

This one is beautiful! http://www.mypetchicken.com/about-chickens/chicken-pictures/A-Partridge-Cochin-hen-X17.aspx

A lovely rooster. http://www.leonvalleytradingco.com/PartridgeCochinBantam.html

Would the white spots make them mottled? Couldn't find anything that said mottled partridge cochin.

Ok, one last link. Check out this gorgeous partridge Pekin, in the eighth picture down. No, it's not a cochin, but it is a partridge. :)

This is a sickness isn't it? Wanting all these different chickens. Good thing Haystack has been cured. hmmm Well, we'll see if he can really go cold turkey on his chicken addiction!

Edited to say the eighth picture down, not the seventh.

I think the Cochin may be one of the breeds in which the chicks change color as they molt and grow adult feathering. The white spotting may disappear.

Ooooh I hope not! the white splashing makes them so pretty! It also gives me a way to identify them! I'll have newer photos tonight , they are growing so fast and now Im having a better idea of their personalities too. the smallest one is much darker than the rest and a little more people oriented. The others are still a little flighty, and veeeery active!

It should have said the eighth picture down, not the seventh.

We all have our own taste in what beauty is, but I don't think kings and queens are dressed as nicely as some of these chickens.

Last but not least another little pullet! That makes 3 and 3. With the pair of blu/blacks and the one Lavender/ splash Hen, I'll have plenty of colorful babies soon!
