We have what seems to be success with planting our sweet potatoes. They are lush and putting out runners all over the garden. My question is...how do we know when they are ready to harvest? Do they put out blossoms? Or die off? This is our first time planting them. We are zone 8 or 9 I believe, by Columbia SC. Saluda County.
Sweet Potatoes
They will grow till frost. I start digging in October as I want warm weather during the curing process. They are a tender perennial that will grow until frost kills the vines. They do slow down as the daylenght shortens.
Ahhhhh...thank you Farmerdill! A reply from somebody close by, and with experience with them. They seem to be doing great!! With only minor pest damage, no Fusarium Wilt that I can tell. We just didn't know what to expect, when to harvest, etc...etc...etc...
