Mom downy brings her baby to the feeder.

Clifton, NJ

My wife and i watched this mom fly back and forth from the suet cage to her nest feeding her baby. Now we get to see her teaching her baby how to eat from a bottom feeder, and it sure is funny. The baby try's to stay on the pole but it keeps sliding down. The mom doesn't feed the baby from her mouth anymore she puts the suet on a branch then she fly's away and the baby go's and gets it on its own. Its something else to watch, a bird teaching its baby. The pictures aren't so great.

Love it! Thanks jzoo85. Very cute pics.

We have quite a few woodpeckers of different varieties all year, but in the Summer it's mostly the Downies that use the feeders. During the Summer we switch to 'bottom' feeders that my husband built several years ago. We go through so much suet as it is & in the Summer it helps to keep the blackbirds & starlings from 'parking' there all day.

You're so right, it really is a lot of fun to watch the baby Downies try to learn what they're supposed to do with those feeders.

Thanks all glad you enjoyed them.
