Daylily 'Endless Heart'
Mike,
Doesn't AHS say that the daylily 'Cardinal' was registered by (dennett, 1944) ?
Cardinal (Dennett, 1944)
height 48in (122cm), season M, Dormant, Diploid, RM1: Red medium self.

'Earlybird Cardinal' is not registered. but someone is supposed to patent it and call it 'Endless Heart', is this how it goes? I was wondering because I ordered 'Earlybird Cardinal' and there was no mention of it not being registered and 'Endless Heart' was never mentioned either. lol.
From Park Seed:
Plant Patent 16,515. Cultivar name: 'Endless Heart', Part of the Jersey Earlybird™ series, Earlybird Cardinal™ (how confusing!) Park Seed is selling bare roots.

Susan, I am not sure how it all started. Maybe it was a promo thing that went awry. I have three large clumps of Endless Heart.
Cardinal is a totally different plant, way before my time, LOL!! As I wrote above EH was registered in 2004. From what I read it wasn't widely distributed until about 2009. If you look at the AHS picture it is the same as the one I have. When I initially got mine I got it as EBC. After some digging I later discovered the discrepancy. EH was the first to bloom in my Z:5 garden last year at the end of May. It has been written that in Z:6 it has shown about 100 days of bloom/color. To top it off it is registered
as an evergreen. I can tell you this, it doesn't go dormant around here.
Yes, I thought that Cardinal was a separate plant. Let me see if I understand the rest because I purchased this plant under the name 'Earlybird Cardinal', I believe Oaks has been selling this plant for years. Maybe they do not know someone patented it under a different name and it is now called 'Endless Heart'. I was shocked to find that this plant is an evergreen and also that it was not registered.
But it is such a great plant, we should have know someone would patent it. If it shows 100 days of bloom/color in zone 6, I wonder what it will do in zone 8, besides rot. I did not want an early blooming evergreen, but I will hope for the best. Thanks for the information and I love your photos.
Let's just say, if it is the correct plant you wont be disappointed.
