Do Monsteras and Philodendrons need micro nutrients?

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9b)

I haven't fertilized my house plants in a looooong time. Just wondering what to use. My Vigoro palm food also lists tropicals. I also have a water soluble palm food. Is one better than the other, or should I use something else all together?

BTW, The xanadu I asked about here ( http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1148192/ ) branched! Seems to be doing fine! Is this normal?

Thanks, David

oh, i love vigaro palm food! when i lived in the keys, it's all i used. one of the few feeds out there with everything. i'm a big believer in micros for every plant. just my own opinion but i try always to feed with more than NPK.

When was the last time you changed your soil? If you fertilize with Miracle grow water soluble granules; you would need to place 2- teaspoons into a 5 gallon bucket. I have found this ratio to be quite good in the Charlotte area Lat. / Long for Aroids. I am sure the Vigoro would work just as well if not better, but it sounds like you need a soil change if it has been that long since you fertilized.

Just my 3 cents worth.

i didn't read carefully enough and just realized that these are potted, indoor plants. you have to be really careful with the granular feed on a potted plant...not very much at all. for potted plants, i really prefer an osmocote with micros. you have to look around for it. the osmocote usually sold in stores doesn't have everything in it. a liquid like homer suggested will also work but you have to feed more often with a liquid (imho).

If you would like to see the results of the Miracle Gro on my tropicals overwintered in my house and in the garage, take a look at the pictures in the Tropical forum over the winter and early spring! It is a lot of work, but well worth the results.

Thanks. I couldn't find my Vigoro and it seems that's a good thing. I did however find a balanced Shultz's with micro's. I'll employ the weakly/weekly method.

The soil that the Xanadu is in has not been changed for some time. After recognizing the branching, I relaxed about repotting. Maybe I should do it anyway. Do Xanadu's normally branch, or am I a miracle worker?

Thanks trackin / homer, David

Do you have a picture? You could possibly be a Miracle worker. I do not know enough about P. Xanadu to tell you yes or no.

I'll post one soon!

Xanadu is in the section Meconostigma (tree type Philos.) and will form a trunk and yes, it will branch out;-)

Too bad, I was gonna go on tour healing plants. Laying my hands on them and so on.

Ha, ha. Don't let that news stop you from touring. I have a couple that could use a prayer or two.

The crystals are starting to harmonize with the stratosphere, but with the cloud cover I'm not sure of my range. I'd through in more crystals but the echo off the ozone could cause a meltdown.
