I was given this plant today. I know the name starts with a "M".....but that's about it. It looks like coral when it blooms. I'm supposed to nurse it back to health. I think it just needs a bigger pot and less water...but I'm no expert. Can you help me ID it so I can at least not kill it!
Can someone ID this plant?
Medinilla
Wow! Thank you very much!
you're welcome....just happened to be cruising by tonight.
Medinillia scortechinii I have one and it likes moisture but not wet, it will rot. Mine blooms like crazy. It seems to be happiest if I leave it in the GH.
It's over a 100 here every day. I have it on the patio, but after I re-pot it, I think I'll bring it into the house, and maybe set it by a window in the breakfast room. It's looking pretty sad, even with it's grapefruit-sized blooms. Leaves are nearly gone....
Aww, I had one I lost last year because I over watered it, I think. I was really upset, but at least I bought two when I found them. The other one is doing great!

Oooooh....I may get hooked on these, if the first one doesn't croak for me! It still looks sickly, but I've not re-potted it yet. The pot it's in looks too small for the size of the plant, but I'm leary of moving it up until the present pot dries a bit.
Your magnifica is gorgeous!
Oh my Gosh I am in Love with both of them!!!
OOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Never saw these. way cool!
The thing with these is that they don't like soggy/too wet soil but they do need high humidity. A light very fast draining soil mix is best, and then frequent watering. If the air is humid then high temperatures won't affect them a lot. But hot dry air will do them in.
I think you've given me the key. We're experiencing summer drought and it's over 100 most days with little to no humidity. Thanks!
