Outdoor mosaics - any special treatment?

Portage, IN(Zone 5b)

I’m looking for feedback for outdoor mosaics – what do you use for glue? And do you do anything special to the grout? For my indoor mosaics, I simply use tacky glue to place the pieces to a backing (wood, usually). But I figure outdoor mosaics need a more robust treatment to withstand and temperature extremes.

I’ve done one project for outdoors (see pic). It’s a grave marker for my dog who’s buried there (really!). The mosaic is set onto a large floor tile as a backer. Then for glue (to set the glass pieces), I used multi-mastic adhesive (used for laying tile). Then I used my usual grout, and sealed it by painting on silicone grout sealer (to the grouted areas only). I’m hoping this is going to hold up to the rain/sun. So far, it’s looking fine, but it’s only been outside for a couple months. I’m fully expecting the tile with my dog’s picture to come off, at which point I’ll simply replace it. And I plan to bring this in for the winter.
