This lovely small bird has been busily creating a sock-like nest in the cedar tree for the past month. It's literally where I have my morning smoke & coffee but I've adjusted that to accommodate them. A neighbour mentioned Bushtit so I looked it up here and it does look right, but I'm not bird experience.
The nest has moss, lichen, bits of tissue paper, etc all cleanly woven together with a few of the branches, and, if you didn't know it was there, you wouldn't see it. I'm surprised they'd build their new condo right above the cement path to my house with so much human traffic constantly going only 3' underneath. It's also right downtown only blocks from the recent Stanley Cup Riots in Vancouver. I'm taken by their craftsmanship and determination.
