It is scary dry here and the county still hasn't enacted a burn ban. Not sure what they are thinking.

I sure hope they ban fireworks everywhere in Texas. Their will be alot more fires if they don't. I have a lot of dead grass and a 15+ year old Red Maple. I have never had huge patches of dead grass. Don't know what it will take to end this drought.

That a great map to have on hand. Lizzie, thanks. I realized you can click on the 'flame' and it will tell how contained the fire is..good to know.

There was a report on fireworks, I was half-listening to the news. They were talking to a fire marshal and he was saying something about , by law they have a limited ability to ban fire works. They have banned fireworks 'with sticks', like bottle rockets. But he was saying he wished he could get morters (sp?) banned as well since they burn hotter and longer. I love my fireworks and blowing stuff up on the fourth... not this year tho!

I enjoy a good fireworks show however I prefer it done by professionals in a safe location.. too many times Ive found burn damage from my neighbors using fireworks and Im the one stuck with the repair bill.. I had a neighbor set up a fireworks stand in his front yard to sell them last year .. he had no insurance in case of an accident ( I had visions of a neighbor hood fire cause all we have is a volunteer fire dept) and we had a unbelievable number of strange cars in and out of the neighborhood. A constantly blocked street and fireworks going off till 3 am did not endear him to any his neighbors. I ended up having to go in front of the city council so they would make him move his business out of a residential neighborhood.

Texans do love their fireworks but from what Ive seen so far many are not very responsible with them..

you are welcome! it is a great resource.

While out and about yesterday, DH and I were discussing what we're going to do about the fireworks situation. We have a big get together and I'm worried about people from other counties bringing fireworks.

We saw a police officer and asked him what was allowed..."all sales are prohibited, anyone seen shooting fireworks will be arrested"

Then we saw a friend who said he had "just bought fireworks down the road", in our county.

Hmm, we decided to stop by the fire department and ask. "only fireworks with fins and sticks are prohibited to shoot or sell" We are allowed to cook out, then he said "the burn ban will be lifted later this week in time for the 4th" ?????

We give up...sent an e-mail to our friends...do not bring fireworks! Instead we are going to set up a projector and sheet with a fireworks show and pass out bubble wrap and balloons to pop :0)

Everyone have a happy 4th :0)

That is a very creative solution. It sounds like fun!

all fireworks were banned in our county. we can still cook out though. there is a county close to us thought that has banned all outdoor cooking too.

I am sure there is alot more than just these 8 that are banning fireworks. I am in Chambers County. But now all fireworks including aerial fireworks are banned from being sold and used in eight counties.

On the list, Jefferson, Hardin, Orange, Chambers, Jasper, Tyler, Liberty and Newton counties.

Because of the dry conditions and imminent fire dangers commissioners in these counties ruled to ban all the sale and use of all fireworks. According to a report by the national fire protection association fireworks caused around 18,000 fires in 2009. That is alot of fires.

I hate people lively hood selling fireworks is being affected but I don't know in this economy who isn't affected by something.
