Just have to show off yesterday's harvest. Still have to pick my sweet potato greens. We can't eat those fast enough.
The only unusual things I can think of in this pic are the Manzana peppers. They're orange with black seeds and they are hot!
I'm getting veggies!
That's a great looking harvest, Quyen.
How big do the sweet potato plants have to be before you can pick the greens? I've never tried eating the greens. I assume I would have to cook them like spinach?
HoneyBee, I just wait until there seems to be a good amount of leaves and young vine shoots for me to cut about 6 - 8 inches off the tips. We saute them with a little garlic and salt or boil/steam them and dip in ponzu sauce or soy sauce with a squeeze of calamondin/lime/lemon (in that order of preference).
Here's a pic of my buttercup squash haul. The 2 vines that I had were volunteers from last year's plants. I didn't get a very good harvest last year but I am ecstatic with this year's. The volunteers came up in February and I just pulled all the vines over the weekend. They were pretty much done for with powdery mildew and what-nots.
The largest of the squash weighed in at 5 lbs 5 oz and the smallest one was 12.8 oz.
Thanks, Quyen, I'm going to try some sweet potato leaves this year.
Hubby and I are trying to eliminate the running bamboo from one area of our lot so I can put in more raised beds - which means I'll have room for more vining crops like squash.
