We were at a resort in Galveston and saw beautifully groomed ragoon creepers. Does anyone know anything about them? I have also heard of a double flower. I have one but it hasn't flowered yet. I have it in a pot. Perhaps it needs a larger pot for its roots to be able to grow.
Any information would be very helpful. I also heard that they can be trained as a tree...

Rangoon Creeper
When I lived in Houston I had a rangoon creeper planted in the ground that climbed past the fence trellis & on up into the top of a very tall tree! It was covered in gorgeous blooms and the fragrance was wonderful. I do not know about training it into a tree - not sure how that could be done since the plant is so prolific and fast growing. I loved that plant! In the Texas Hill Country deer would probably eat it for lunch, but someday I might try it here. Good luck!
I have owned both of these plants (the single and the double) and in my experience, the double is not NEAR as cold hardy as the single. While the double is more rare, in my opinion the single puts on a better show. There are a couple of places in Houston that have them for sale right now, including Another Place in Time, Zone 9 Tropicals and Joshuas. They also LOVE water, as mine hasn't looked this good before we finally got rain. Of course I guess that could be said about most plants.
Thanks for the tips about the ragoon creeper. I have to have my plant in a pot so I can move it in the winter. It can get cold here and I don't want to take a chance. I think perhaps it could use a larger pot. I water almost daily it's now over the 100's
Still now flowers yet but I must have just gotten the plant as a small one this spring.

North Phoenix
Mickey I have one and it came back from temps in the teens this past winter. Alan is growing it too. Mine does die back every winter.
Desertdenial5,
Hi I live up in Cave Creek so I have to bring in most of my plants for the winter. Mine is growing pretty goof but still no blooms? Any tips? Perhaps I need to move it in to a larger pot. I'm afraid to put it in the ground.

Mine has not flowered yet either. It freezes back every year but my understanding is it blooms on new growth. I also red that it may need to be at least 3 years old to bloom.
Desertdentnil,
Are you feeding the ragoon creeper? I'm planning to move it into the Arizona room for the winter so it doesn't die back. Still not blooms but I just moved it up to a much larger pot. I love the fiberglass pots they protect the roots from getting hot and they are light.

No I am guilty of not feeding mine.
