After 4 weeks of no rain, it actually rained last night.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

All of a sudden there is a chance of rain every day this week which is normal for the summer but for weeks we have had days and days of no chance of rain. Now we just need rain every day for, hmmmm, two weeks or so?? Very dry in the low country I'm seeing burned magnolias which is odd and can't be a good sign.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I got 2 inches according to my rain gauge! Very welcome here .. we also lost power for 2 hours. When I got up this morning everything, including the parched grass looked so happy!

Sumter, SC

My yard got .8" one night last week - first rain in weeks. Missed out on a big gully washer a couple nights ago that drenched much of Sumter. Since I'm protecting plants from voles by burying them in bottomless containers, I'm out spot watering about an hour each day. There's a 30% chance of pop up storms today, followed by a dry pattern with searing heat and humidity. I've noticed that during the summer months rain chances change daily, so there's always hope that the meteorologists are wrong. I'm also battling japanese beetles as yellow flies feast on my flesh. I know it's not officially summer, but I am really, really looking forward to October.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

We got about 1 1/2" the other night but other than a sprinkle that didn't even register in the rain gauge, we had not had anything since late March. It rains all around us, even right in the neighborhood but nothing on my street. Things are bone dry again this morning and we have been politely asked to conserve water. No restrictions yet but obviously the water company is thinking about it.

Johns Island, SC

I got a MOST WELCOME inch and a half on Johns Island, and in the nick of time! Plants in the woods around my house were shriveling up, some dying, and I was watering "precious plants" every day (in addition to routine watering by sprinkler/drip automated systems). My 5 rain barrels were on "E". What a drag! Really ticks me off when the local weathermen like Rob Fowler go orgasmic with their forecasts of "no rain in sight, so you're good to go for the week-end". Guess their week-ends don't involve growing things...

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

We didn't get enough to measure this time but just hearing it was reassuring.

Grantsboro, NC(Zone 8b)

It rained exactly 8 minutes yesterday, just like a hose sprinkling then gone and then the sun came back out. It has made my black eye susie vine look bad.

So sorry Alice .. from the looks of things on the radar I was thinking you were getting deluged! Bummer! A mean looking line got within 6 miles of me then promptly fell apart.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

We had some rain last night and it sounded like we were getting plenty but it only registered one half of 1/10" . It rained all around us however, go figure.

Sumter, SC

Spent much of the day spot watering, hose in hand. I've also noticed that ground voles are attracted to the damp root oasis I create for them underground. I just say a little prayer and try to keep the grass cut very short - the no mulch thing is killer this time of year. Seems like our summers are getting hotter and dryer. I live in a small area that often misses big storms, and tracking them live online is so frustrating. I remember eons ago when the ditches around here had lots of water in the summer, and they were filled with crawfish and even game fish. A nice tropical system (not a hurricane!)would be so beneficial..

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Finally!! It's been all around us but not a drop until tonight--a real downpour and I've got the roof gutter running into the pond! Yea!

New Bern, NC(Zone 8a)

In New Bern we got right at 2" yesterday. A sollid "straight down" rain which lasted a good length of time - great for giving things a good soak. The pond is full, the frogs are singing, there are large puddles in the street.

A chance for more of the same over the next couple of days.

Lavina, hope you were in the path of this rain as well.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

WooHoo, lucky you.

Grantsboro, NC(Zone 8b)

We got 8/10 of an inch hate we didn't get the 2 inches.
A lot of my flowers have died even tho I watered them late at night and in the AM.

I have things that have not grown an inch since I put them in months ago. Very strange.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I'm still on the takes me about 2 hours to hand water front and back yard every day.. we had that 1 good downpour about 2 weeks ago and a few sprinkles since then, but really nothing else. The weather guys are calling for a 40% chance of rain, but being the pessimist at this point I see it as a 60% chance of no rain.

A lot of my plants in the ground have gone comatose too.

Sumter, SC

I'm getting up at 6am and watering several hours each morning. Also using a sprinkler all day. The soil around here is so sandy, there are some plants I must water twice a day. The precip forecast for the SE is above normal for the rest of summer. I'll believe it when I see it!

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Another boomer with lotsa rain ...at last relief from hose duty.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Aggghhhhhhh, not a drop - again. Lots of noise and lightning, it came so close I could see the rain, but that invisible umbrella kept us dry.

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Wash your car....polish it up good. It'll rain. Harder to do........plan a garage sale....soon as you get it all set up...the thunder and rain will come.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Same thing here Alice - lightning & thunder and only a few drops .. a couple of miles away they got something like 2 inches!
