I had a Plumeria out by the ocean for years. I dug it up and brought it in the house during Hurricane Georges. A few years later we had a tropical storm, Irene I believe and I did the same thing. My landscapers were here to plant some palms and other things and I told them to plant it back where it was. Well, it disappeared. I think the workers got confused and hauled it away with the some other plants that we removed. :( I have looked for it for years.
It was a tight compact small tree. The blooms were very different and incredibly fragrant. Fragrant to the point of smelling up my entire back yard at times. The main thing that was different was the blooms were small, barely an inch across and there were about 30-50 on each tip. It was like a rounded nosegay. If you cut an inflorescence off that was in bloom, it was a perfectly rounded mass of blooms. The color was white, pale pink with some pale yellow. Any ideas?
Any ideas based on this description......?
do you remember where you acquired the plumeria from?
It was a cutting from a tree that washed away during Hurricane Georges. The tree was small, possibly a dwarf variety. It was about 10' from the ocean and was there for about 10 years when I took the cutting. I had mine several years and it was a little larger than their 10 year old, probably because I fed it better food and made sure it was watered during the dry season. The fragrance was intoxicating and smelled up the entire yard in the summer. Flowers very small, but MANY. Perfectly rounded little heads of many small flowers with pink, white and yellow.
you'll probably have to do an internet search and look at pics of plumerias to get close. it probably would help if you had one. but sometimes it can be hard to id from a pic.
I think what you are looking for is this
:
Bridal Bouquet Plumeria (PUDICA).
I purchased cuttings a few years ago from the marketplace. Unfortunately both pots of them froze this past winter. We were up north, when the temps were in the 20s. Couldn't get home fast enough to bring them inside.
The plant grows to about 4 feet tall and has small blooms in clusters. I'll have to get them again. All of my other plumeria froze too. I have two seedlings in pots that made it thru. I grew them from seed, and have no idea what their colors are.
pudica has not fragrance. does it have pink in it?
