Will the Pain's Bay fire ever go out? I am so tired of the smell when I first go out with the dog in the mornings.
Entie is the neighbor still posting on Dave's? Its about time for another lunch meet up.

I am so tired of the smoke smell in the AMs
We had a controlled burn North of here last week.
If a lunch meetup is planned during the week or on a Sunday, I may be able to make it.

We get it every day from the Okefenokee Swamp fires on the GA/FL border, some days you can barely see across the river. It is so darn dry here I am afraid we will have our own fires soon.
Smells like a sauna around here. LOL, I can't do with out that smell but it's not that bad.
It's really smokey here tonight, Ardesia, so you must have it worse. Newscasters say it's all coming up from Florida/Georgia wildfires, so you must have it much worse. Are you seeing this?
It has been really bad, it seems to be hugging the coast. My son in JAX says it is the worst by the beaches. Last night we actually watched it rolling across the marsh at us. It was so dense at first we thought it was rain then noticed it was billowing. We turned off the attic fan so the smell would not be drawn into the house. News said visibility was down to 1/2 mile last night. Sheesh, can you imagine what it must be like living closer to these fires?
Our Pain's Bay fire is still going this AM wish it would rain. But today at lease wind is blowing north east.
I used to live in Jax. are you saying it no longer rains there everyday?LOL
Lavina
Like everywhere else, the weather is changing in JAX. The fires are well west of there in the Okeefenokee; it is just that the smoke is blowing towards the coast and then up the coast to here. Things are much better today, let's hope tonight is better than last night.
Just got back from an 8 day trip to Okracoke. The smoky smell was there almost every days, and stronger than here in New Bern. Had a good time anyway :)
Lavina, my friend is away until September - on her boat to sail Canadian waters. But a lunch get-together sounds good.

Have you taken the master gardner class at Craven Comm.? I would love to take that class, they only have it at Pamlico during the day.
Lavina
Lavina, I took my master gardner at the Scott County Extension Service when I lived in Georgetown, Kentucky. I learned so much. Don't they offer it in Craven County?
My yellow watermelons are doing fine - no little watermelons yet, but I am hoping!

I am gonna find out I want to take the class real bad.
I went to Raleigh for 2 days, no smoky smell it was nice.
Lavina
OK, this is just not fair. The smoke from the GA/FL fires has finally dissipated but now we are getting smoke from the NC fires. Good grief, what did we do to annoy the gods? No rain and smoke from distant infernos.
I hope this dissipates soon. Family arriving the last week of July, and our daughter in law has asthma. That can't be good!

Let's hope some of these summer storms head your way. On another forum they were dancing the "Mac ah Rain ah," we'll have to try it. :-)
We finally got 5" the other day and yesterday with air was thick with smoke from the Holly Ridge shelter fires.
Certainly makes for an interesting start to summer!
Barb
Oh my word. Its so smoky here today the worst I have seen. And my house smells smoky inside.
I wish we would get 3 or 4 days of a real rain fall.
Hope all is well with the rest of you
Lavina
