FDA finally says Chicken and their Feed contains arsenic

For all y'all that feed chickens commercial feed... There is a chicken feed made by Alpharma LLC, a subsidary of Pfizer, that contains Roxarsone... which the FDA has just admitted contains inorganic arsenic (a known carcinogen) and is found in chickens at the supermarkets. They have been using it for years, saying it helped fatten chickens and helps control a common intestinal disease called coccidiosis. They are pulling it off the market next month, giving farmers time to find a substitute.

They used to think chickens excreted it all in the poultry waste, which by the way is used in cattle feed.

Thanks Darius.

I saw that a few days ago, Darius. I had already checked to make sure that the feed I use didn't contain that arsenic compound. I'm really surprised that the FDA is phasing it out so quickly; they've been dilly- dallying about RoundUp for years now!

Actually, the FDA didn't do it... it was voluntary by Pfizer, mainly because the EU is giving them so many fits about it. And if the EU rejects it, it will be written into Codex, for everyone.

It's also called 3-Nitro

What brand names contain this additive, do you know? Does Pfizer list it on their website??

That's all I could find out. Pfizer owns Alpharma, who actually makes the ingredient, and uses it in feed they sell.

Thanks for the heads up anyway.

I should have said "sell to their distributors", sorry.
