I really don't mind spiders. They eat their share of bugs, and most of the time they're pretty cute, especially the ones who make their own zippers. However, when they repeatedly build at my front door entrance, or in my palm trees (which they seem to love), I wish they were somewhere else. And this spring they are all over the boat, since they love the little midgies or whatever they are that die in thousands on the deck every night.
A friend gave me a bottle of "Spider Away." Made by Starbrite and available at West Marine. It really does the trick! The contents are:
2.5% peppermint oil
7% vinegar
90.5% water
= 100% Spider Away
We already make some of our own cleaning products, bleach and all purpose cleaner, so when the Spider Away bottle is empty, I'll refill it on my own.

Love the cartoon!
Isn't that a hoot? Love Gary Larson.
For years we got those big 'seeds' banana' spiders- the ones that zigzag their webs. If they were in our walkway I would relocate them. I guess them got annoyed - haven't seen them for 2 years. As spiders go I'd rather have them than the tiny ones you can't see till you walk thru them. My son had a lot of trouble with brown recluse spiders on his boat. Their bite hurts.
A friend of mine bought a can of "Hotshot Spider Killer" at Food Lion. He swears his boat is now spider free. I used the Spider Away on our boat, and it seems to have worked.

I use to live in a condo that had a walkway to the front door surrounded by palmettos and pecan trees. Those banana spiders would build webs nightly across the walk way since it was lit up. I got wound up in those webs many times and my thought was always the same, there is a big a** spider some where on this web. Nothing like a little terror on your way in the door. Always had squirrels watching me too which for some reason started creeping me out. They were there for the pecans but they would always watch me walking along the side walk. I had a whole wild kingdom going on at that place.
