Organic Pesticide Use (and other organic pest controls)

Winston Salem, NC

We had a bad infestation last year of about five different pests. This year will start before I see them. Want to try Dipel. Anyone used it? Did it work? How did you dust it onto the plants without wasting it.

Suggestions about any other good organic pest controls that worked for you would be appreciated.

What pests were they? Dipel is made up of several different strains of Bacillus thuringiensis so it'll be effective against some caterpillars and larvae of some different insects, but it won't control everything. So it depends on what pests you had whether it'll work well or not. Biological pesticides like that tend to be fairly specific in terms of what pests they control so you will likely need to use a few different ones if you've got a wide range of pests.

When I lived in South Florida I used Bacillus thuringienses for caterpillar control on tomatoes with good success. I haven't needed to use it here because my garden is regularly patrolled by wasps, which feed caterpillars to their young.
