It's a penstemon, I'm unsure of the species tho. There are some native to Colorado and California that are really electric looking. Brazos penstemon can turn different colors depending on the soil, but I'd wait and see if someone can verify yours as a Brazos. I may be missing a subtle detail on identifying..I stink at that.lol
Congratulations, it's very pretty!

I also think it is Brazos Penstemon, Penstemon tenuis here is a link;

Thank you cocoa_lulu and Josephine -

I posted this in the Plant ID Forum as well.

Someone has suggested it could be Phoenix Series
I'm now wondering if this could possibly be a 'Dwarf'.

The plant itself was only about 3" or 4" tall and the blooming spike was about 5" or so taller than the plant. I didn't have my camera, so wasn't able to get photos of them growing in the ground.

I hope they will transplant ok so I will be able to get seeds.

Thanks again

The Brazos Penstemon's plant is just a couple of inches tall. The bloom stalk can be as long as a couple of feet tall for a mature plant.

Emma....just a side note...on the id thread the link that was given; it also has the Gulf Coast Penstemon tenius (Brazos Penstemon) there. It is a lovely Tx native.
