We found these on our sugar maple tree, they were huge. It is the largest moth in North America and had a wing span of at least 5 or 6 inches. They are also called a Robins moth or a Giant Silk worm moth.

They remind me a lot of the Polyphemus moth but different colors. Same shape though. Very cool. Do you know if they have mouths? I know Polyphemus don't. I just got to wondering if they were going after sap flows, but then I thought they probably don't eat if they're in the same family as the Polyphemus.

mellielong, when I read about them it said they do not have mouths and that they live a little longer in cooler weather which we had been having at the time. The next day we found 2 more on our front porch but they looked a little smaller so I wonder if they were the same kind, of course they flew away before I could get the camera.
