i have seed pods that are growing inside the crolla hope i have this right its not even thinking about falling off been a month
Question on seed pods
It is strange how some calyx fall off as soon as the pods start to form while others stay on right up until the pod is ripe. Sometimes the calyx will dry up but still hang on and cover the pod. I made the mistake of snipping a green pod off once because the dried calyx clinging to the pod made it appear as if the seed pod was dry and ready to harvest.
I always leave mine on because it helps protect the pod. I just found out that unprotected seed pods can get sunburned. Over the weekend I spaced some of my larger plants out. Some of the lower seed pods that were originally shaded by the upper leaves were now exposed to 100% full sun. A few that did not have the protective calyx actually got sunburned!
Good luck with your crosses. The pods look very healthy.
Fred
Thanks for your responce! This ones in shade few hours of morning sun one of my pink velvets in sun and hot afternoon sun its pods are exposed I didn't touch that one!

Hi! I'm new to this forum, and new to brugs. I have a Black Angel Trumpet. They look completely different than all the others, and the seed pods are like golf-ball sized pomegranates. I have been experimenting with them. I guess I'm seeing that they start out with lots of purple spots, then fade to green, then split open when they're "ripe". I have thousands of seeds now, and 4 new plants from cuttings as well as newly sprouted seeds. The ones I planted on July 3rd came up a week later. EVERY seed sprouted! I was amazed. So, I'm picking the pods before they have a chance to split to see if they continue to ripen or stop. So far it appears that they stop.
Any advice on storing and selling these seeds? I could use a second job! :) Each average sized pod has 350 seeds in it. Do I have a money tree here?
These are daturas not bugs everyone that has these has thousands of seed too not like its very hard to get them . I do not thin you would start up a business with these lol You coulds possibly strike up a few trades with other gardeners
To Danasplants: So...Black Angel Trumpet, Daturas, I'm confused. They're the same, aren't they? Anyway, thanx for your input. I guess I'll just keep propagating. Maybe I'll sell plants just like the lady that we bought ours from. I have several cuttings that have taken nicely! And even the immature seeds have sprouted, just today. I planted them on July 3rd, just like I did the plump, brown seeds that came up in a week. I guess maybe fresh seeds grow pretty readily. What about storing them, though? Keep them in paper coin envelopes? In plastic pill bottles? I've learned that if I store them in the pill bottles before they're dry they start to ferment! Yuck. What a nasty smell.
Any advice about storage?
Ahhh! Thank you. A friend of mine gave me cuttings from her Angel Trumpet. I knew my flowers were the same, but not much else is the same, (branches, pods, position of flowers, not a good smell). So...I'm a little dense sometimes. I will check out the Datura forum. But the cuttings from my friends white angel trumpet is taking nicely. :) Thanks again. I'm just experimenting with all of this stuff. I'm not an experienced gardener and am caring for my sister's gardens. Lots of mystery plants, but everything is blooming nicely with all of this beautiful summer rain. I've taken several cuttings from other plants and had success with almost all of them. I just don't have enough time to spend the time I would like! I could spend hours that go by in ten minutes!
God's gifts to help us cope with this disturbed planet.
