The shasta daisies that I wintersowed in 2009/2010 season have outdone themselves and are the "Becky" variety (Tall!). In 2012, I'm going to aim for something lower height, maybe try the Alaska which I think is only supposed to get 24 inches. Any suggestions? If I cut back the stems that have already bloomed, will I get blooms again? Coreopsis "Sunray" seed pkt. states it only gets only 18 inches. I got news, mine are as tall as the Becky shasta daisies. They are planted where they get the morning and early afternoon sun. All along I was thinking "Sunray" was a rudbeckia and I just got my seed pkt. out that I had saved and surprized to learn it is a coreopsis, not a rudbeckia.
Shasta daisies
Finding a "shorten enough" daisy always seems like a challenge! Tell me if you the perfect one!
I checked on the Bluestone Perennials website and The Alaska shasta daisy is medium height(28 inches tall). Another one that reminds me of one of the coneflowers is called Wirral Pride grows Medium hgt. 24 inches also. Seems like I have one in front of Dr. Ruppel clematis that I've had at least 4 or 5 yrs. and I think it is called Snow Lady. Would have to doublecheck my garden journal to see if I kept the plant tag on it. I would like to look locally in my area first to see if either of these would be available. If not, I might consider ordering from them. Also want to see if one of the seed catalogs sells the seed for either of these two varieites.
Were you successful in getting a shorter daisy like you were looking for?
