Anita has this growing in her garden. Is it familiar to anyone?
unknown plant maybe from fall RU
This is Alstromeria Parrot lily. I have this and I love it. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/900/
Thanks for the id...that was fast!
You are welcome.
I got some too Anna, but I can't remember from who?
Maybe it was Kenboy?
Yes,I think it was.
So....we will look for you guys to share with us in the future! LOL! Definately a different looking plant.
I have some to trade if anyone is interested.
Honestly, its not that spectacular. Leaves are small and short and then these flowers arise on stalks. To me, they are not that showy. I will have some for you in the fall if you want them.

Read the plantfile. It looks like in some gardens it is a nuisance.
I haven't had it that long to find out but it did survive being accidentally pulled up, which shows all it needs is some roots.
OK after reading that I am removing that plant from the bed it is in.

I have had it almost 20 yrs. It is not that big of a nuisance to me. I do recommend not letting it go to seed as it will come up everywhere. I love the green and red colors of the bloom. But what is for some is not for others.
Well said!
True, growing in different conditions does make a difference. I am not willing to take the chance. I just dont want to fight plants who spread.
After reading PF I don't think I would either.
alstromeria is used by a lot of florists because of it long lasting ability and its one tough cut flower colors range from pure white to deep purple and everything in between.. I wish I could find other varities for the garden
blkraven I too wish I could find other varieties. I know Brent and Becky's carries a few but not as high on my list as the EE's I ordered. Maybe next yr. I did have seeds from 2 I got in trades. I just planted them and they are a few yrs old but with any luck I will have some to trade next spring.
You might check with Easy to Grow Bulbs. We had a coop there last spring. My beautiful red alstro from the coop did not return after our 8-degree February, but it was in a pot. I think others had better luck.
