Can anyone identify these volunteers?

Tucson, AZ(Zone 9b)

Sorry, I know it's a common question, but I beg your indulgence. When I pulled up a dead tomato plant (that I'd forgotten to water ONE measly day!) I found these guys that obviously sprouted from my haphazard compost. Thanks to anybody who's willing to take a stab at them.

Cucumber-like green thing?
Sorry, can't be much help.

Triffid?

(I'm British, so anything unidentifiable is a Triffid!) LOL

Catmad, that's as far as I got, too. LOL The longer "branches" put me in mind of strawberries but surely not.

Hilarious, Honeybee! :-)

Cat is about as close as you are going to get. It is a member of the family Cucurbitaceae. Greatest possibilities are cucumber, cantaloupe, but gourds or even a squash is a possibility.

cucumbers or zucchini

Mindy, I'd love to see what you end up with. I'm fascinated by the Things That Could Be Squashes, and by Triffids, so either way, I'd be happy to see updates....:)

Thank you all for your help! I will keep you posted.

I think squash, zucs or pumpkin!

Well the mystery plant started getting really huge and I got worried it was zucchini and would take over the whole little bed, so I pulled it. Apologies to those who love zucchini. We like it okay but I wasn't willing to possibly sacrifice my picking cucs, green onions, okra, and Cherry tomatoes. The plant will live on as compost. :-)

Dang, I wanted to know what it was going to be!

Sigh. Cut down in the prime of ife.
So sad....

LOL, so sorry! I should have taken a pre-death photo; it was looking a lot like the huge zucchini plants people have been posting. If it makes you feel better, I have a little volunteer growing elsewhere by itself that I'm keeping. :-)

Run, little plant, RUN!!!
